Nest+
Furniture Design
Duration: 1 months
2024
This project, done under the Furniture Design module, focused on designing a crib that can later be transformed into different furniture forms once the child outgrows it, extending its usability and lifespan.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
To design a multifunctional furniture piece that adapts to various uses, ensuring longevity, space efficiency, and practicality in modern living spaces. Developed under the Furniture Module, this concept reimagines traditional design with a modular, user-friendly approach.
RESEARCH OUTLINE
-
Most people hesitate to spent on multipurpose furniture because most of the once available in the market charge bomb but doesn't seem elegant enough for the interiors.
-
People hesitate to spent on cribs thinking of the wastage after few years of use.
-
Often left out for uses that doesn't actually require any product (eg: dumping washed clothes, clothes for ironing).
-
Preferred to borrow unless it is for the first baby.
-
Getting it custom made adds cost and require time.
-
Requires daily maintenance (like changing sheets and cleaning) even if the product is not in use.

CONCEPT EXPLORATION

CONCEPT EXPLORATION

PROTOTYPING
I developed the crib prototype at a 1:1 scale using foam board and PVC pipes. The foam board profiles were first laser-cut for accuracy, then sanded to achieve a clean finish and assembled using 743 adhesive. After joining all the components, the entire prototype was painted to achieve the desired visual quality.
Red was chosen as the primary color because it activates the space and immediately draws attention. Even when the module is repurposed as a table or a basket, the red ensures it retains a strong visual presence and continues to stand out.

NEST+
Nest+ is a modular, multi-functional furniture piece designed to evolve with user needs. This innovative system seamlessly transforms into a crib, seating, bassinet, table, basket, and play area, ensuring extended usability beyond infancy.
